No. 8(3)/2007- FDI Data Government of India Ministry of Commerce Industry Department of Industrial Policy Promotion SIA (FDI Data Cell) Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi, 7th June, 2007 CIRCULAR Subject: Foreign Direct Investment data/analysis - Regarding As per the, GOI (Allocation of Business) Rules, Department of Industrial Policy Promotion (DIPP) has been allocated the subject of policy on foreign and non-resident Indian investment. DIPP is also handling Investment Promotion activities. FDI Data serves as an important tool in the activities of DIPP and the DIPP (SIA) is the single point Government Department responsible for collection, collation and dissemination of data on FDI approvals Inflows. Accordingly the FDI inflows data is received from the RBI on a monthly basis maintained as per the FDI database developed by this Department. The summarized data is disseminated as "FDI Statistics" on www.dipp.gov.in every month. In addition, FDI data required by the line Ministries, various Parliamentary Committees, Parliament Questions, Research scholars, Industry etc. are provided by the SIA, DIPP. 2. It has been brought to the notice of this Department that some Ministries/Departments are independently seeking monthly inflows data from RBI for the sectors under their administrative control. This gives rise to a situation where the data processed disseminated by SIA is not in alignment with the raw information obtained from RBI since the parameters for data processing by DIPP Ministries may not be the same. 3. In order to avoid such situations which may give room to variations in FDI data made available by different Ministries of the Government of India, it is requested that the sectoral Ministries may seek FDI data only from DIPP and do not seek data directly from the RBI.
