Education tax paid for self edu. - can it be taken in itr?

  • Contents

Hi All,

I am 28 yrs IT Engineer and have paid ₹ 6,00,000.00 for my higher education + ₹ 84,000.00 as TAX.

Q: Can I claim this ₹ 84,000.00 in ITR(AY 2016-2017)? If Yes, then please let me know under what section? If No, then I have heard this can be done, if I show it as a consultation fee?

Please guide.

I guess the amount is service tax @14% (correct me if wrong). The said tax cannot be claimed in Income tax. Further I know for education guidance there is counselling is done and not consultation.

Unless the nature of tax is known opinion cannot be given. If the tax is mentioned in the bill then it cannot be treated as a consultation fee.
