Clarification on re-registration of a vehicle

  • Contents

Sir, I belong to Andhra Pradesh but living in Gujarat. I am planning to purchase a car in Mar 2017 and want to get register in Gujarat only by paying present taxes. But my stay in Gujarat is only temporary and likely to move my state i.e Andhra Pradesh after 6 months and by that time GST will be implemented. Then what tax should I pay to re-register my vehicle there?? Kindly give clarification on this issue please..

Regards

PV Jagaeesh

As per Motor Vehicle Act read with Rules made thereunder. RTO department will calculate the registration fee and if entry tax is applicable then this is also requried to be paid. The RTO Registration fee shall be around 30000/-

If your stay is temporary, then, in our opinion there is no need for the same.

There will be no entry tax separately as it would get subsumed into GST.

If you take your vehicle to your state under GST regime then in my view GST will not apply because there will be no supply.

Still, if your stay is permanent, then, you would have to pay to RTO for change in Registration of Vehicle.

If your stay is temporary in Gujarat then you should ,in my view, wait and buy in Andhra Pradesh to save registration charges and formalities. Obviously it is your wish whether to buy car now or later. Thanks

If you reduce your carbon foot print, then, in our view do not buy car. Even I do not have any car. As the social cost of a car is very high.
