..... world. Asian and African countries are the major producers of sesame. With an annual production of 0.6-0.8 million tonnes, India is the largest producer of sesame seeds on a global basis. By contributing nearly 25% to the international trade, India has also attained the status of the largest exporter of sesame seeds in the world. Sesame is grown in several states of India. It is cultivated in both kharif and rabi seasons and accordingly the time of harvest and type/quality of seed varies with the states. All types i.e. off-white, black, yellow, brown-black are grown in India. While China is the largest importer of sesame seeds in the world, the Korean Republic, Vietnam, Taiwan, the USA, Greece, Germany, Malaysia, Russia, the Netherlands and Iran are the top ten export destinations for the Indian sesame seeds. With effect from 1st October 2014, the EU has included sesame seeds in the list of products which are required to undergo an increased level (20%) of official controls. Accordingly this control is to be exercised on the imports of feed and food of non-animal origin (FNAO) at the points of entry in line with Regulation (EC) No. 669/2009. The format for submitting request for shifting the sampled consignment is given in Annexure E. 5.7 In order to facilitate exports in terms of savings on cost and time, the FBOs will have option of stuffing the cargo in the container in presence of the laboratory representative even before issuance of test report, provided that the container is stuffed as per the permission of the government authorities concerned. Role and responsibilities of IOPEPC 9.1 The IOPEPC will be responsible for developing an online system for regulating and monitoring the entire process of export of sesame seeds from India to EU countries. 9.2 The IOPEPC will be the competent authority for issue of COE for the consignments of sesame seeds destined to EU countries. 9.3 The IOPEPC will be empowered to issue amendments to the procedures, required if any. 9.4 The IOPEPC will constitute standing committees for dealing with rapid alerts and any technical issue requiring its consideration. 9.5 On the basis of the recommendation(s) of the committee(s), the IOPEPC will issue advices and directives to the FBO concerned for upgrading its infrastructure and/or amend its protocols to meet the requirements of EU countries. 10. ..... pling procedure: a. Sampling is to be done as per EC No. 2073/2005 for detection of Salmonella. b. The general guidelines as enunciated in CAC/GL50-2004 on sampling must be followed. c. From each ready-for-export consignment (20 tonnes in a 20 feet container or 27 t in a 40 feet container) about 30 g sample will be aseptically and randomly drawn from five different bags/packages and then pooled to make one composite samples of 150g each. Five such composite samples will be prepared. A bag once sampled will not be sampled again. Thus from each consignment 25 different bags will be sampled. The composite sample will be placed in separate, clean, sterile, and labelled container/bag to ensure adequate protection from external microbiological contamination d.
