10-Year Tax-Free Bonds by NHPC Specified Under Section 10(15)(iv)(h) of Income-Tax Act, 1961; Registration Required

The Central Government has specified the "10 year 9 percent Tax Free Secured Redeemable Non-convertible Bonds, 1987 (B Series)" issued by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited, New Delhi, under section 10(15)(iv)(h) of the Income-tax Act, 1961. These bonds are tax-free and secured, but the tax benefit is only available if the bondholder registers their name and holdings with the corporation. This specification was formalized in Notification No. S.O.179 dated November 3, 1987.
