Biotechnology SEZ Established in Kerala's Ernakulam District from May 12, 2009, per Special Economic Zones Act 2005.

The Central Government has designated May 12, 2009, as the effective date for the establishment of a sector-specific Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for the biotechnology sector in Kerala. This SEZ, located in Thrikkakara North Village, Kanayannur Taluk, Ernakulam District, is to be developed by a private infrastructure company. The notification, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, exercises powers under the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005, and recognizes the area as an Inland Container Depot under the Customs Act, 1962.
