SEBI Amends Venture Capital Funds Regulations 1996: Foreign Investments Allowed Under New Guidelines by RBI and SEBI.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued amendments to the Venture Capital Funds Regulations, 1996, effective upon publication in the Official Gazette. The 2006 amendments introduce a definition for "foreign company" as per the Companies Act, 1956, and allow venture capital funds to invest in securities of foreign companies, subject to conditions or guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India and SEBI. These changes follow previous amendments made between 1998 and 2004.
