The Central Government has approved the establishment of a sector-specific Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for mineral-based industries in Chhatrapur, Ganjam District, Orissa, proposed by a private organization. The notification confirms that all legal requirements under the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005, have been met, and a letter of approval was granted on February 27, 2009. The designated area, detailed in the notification, is now recognized as an SEZ. An Approval Committee has been constituted to oversee the SEZ, comprising various government officials and a representative from the developer. The SEZ is deemed an Inland Container Depot/Port under the Customs Act, effective June 9, 2009.
