Excise Duty Amendments: Video/Audio Tapes Now Rs. 3.00/sq.m, Audio Cassettes Exempt, S. No. 8 Removed

The Central Government has amended Notification No. 74/90-C.E., concerning video/audio tapes or cassettes, under the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944. The amendments include changes to the excise duty rates in the notification's table: S. No. 1 and S. No. 6 now have a rate of Rs. 3.00 per square metre, S. No. 2 and recorded audio cassettes under S. No. 7 are now exempt from duty, and S. No. 8 has been removed entirely. These changes are made in the public interest.
