    The Union Minister of Finance, Corporate Affairs and Information & Broadcasting Shri Arun Jaitley will deliver the Inaugural Address at the Opening Session of the ICN Merger Workshop 2014 on Monday, 1st December, 2014. This two day International Workshop is being organised by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in the national capital on 1st and 2nd December, 2014. The theme of the workshop is ’International Cooperation and remedies in merger review’.

    During the two day workshop, there will be in depth discussions on various issues during the different sessions including on ‘International Merger Enforcement Cooperation, Best Practices for International Cooperation, Problems and Challenges faced by Young Competition Agencies in International Cooperation (newer merger regime) and the role of outreach in minimising them, Exchange of Information (including waivers) in merger investigations of multi-jurisdictional filings, remedies in merger cases, overcoming challenges in designing and implementing cross-border remedies and the pros and cons of behavioural remedies among others.

    There will also be Panel Discussions on issues relating to Outreach: Objective and what more is required, discussion on ‘Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) Framework on International Cooperation, discussion on hypothetical merger case, presentation on the facts of the hypothetical case study and arguments on hypothetical merger case among others.

    Valedictory Address will be delivered by Hon’ble Justice G.S. Singhvi, Chairman COMPAT. The major participants in the two-day Workshop include Mr. John Pecman, Commissioner, Canadian Competition Bureau, Dr. J. Luebking, Head of Merger Division, EU, Ms Patty Brink, US Department of Justice, Mr. Paulo Burnier Da Silveira, Brazil CADE and Sheldon Mills, UK Competition and Markets Authority among others.
