    Wholesale Price Indices for Primary Articles and Fuel & Power in India (Base: 2004-05 = 100) Review for the week ended 4th December, 2010

    The WPI [with base year 2004-05] for the week ended 4th December, 2010 in respect of 'Primary Articles' and 'Fuel & Power' is given below:

    PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 20.12%) 

    The index for this major group rose by 0.2 percent to 184.6 (Provisional) from 184.2 (Provisional) for the previous week.

    The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 13.25 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 04/12/2010 (over05/12/2009) as compared to 12.66 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 27/11/2010).  

    The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-

    The index for 'FOOD ARTICLES' group rose by 0.2 percent to 181.7 (Provisional) from 181.4 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of condiments & spices (4%), fruits & vegetables (2%) and gram (1%).  However, the prices of fish-marine (7%), egg (5%), fish-inland,      poultry chicken and arhar (2% each) and masur (1%) declined.

    The index for 'NON-FOOD ARTICLES' group declined by 0.3 percent to 169.5 (Provisional) from 170.0 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of flowers (6%), cotton seed and fodder (2% each) and raw rubber (1%). However, the prices of raw silk and gaur seed (6% each), copra (5%), castor seed and coir fibre (2% each) and gingelly seed (sesamum) and soyabean (1% each) moved up.

    The index for 'MINERALS' group rose by 1.1 percent to 253.6 (Provisional) from 250.8 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of crude petroleum (2%).

    FUEL & POWER (Weight 14.91%)

    The index for this major group rose by 0.5 percent to 149.4 (Provisional) from 148.6 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of light diesel oil (5%), furnace oil and bitumen (4% each),      naphtha (3%) and aviation turbine fuel (2%).

    The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 10.67 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 04/12/2010 (over05/12/2009) as compared to 9.99 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 27/11/2010).
