Rule 7 - Tenure - Settlement Commission (Income-tax and Wealth-tax) (Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Chairman, Vice-Chairmen and Members) Rules, 2015Extract 7. Tenure. A person appointed as the Chairman or a Vice-Chairman or a Member shall hold office for a period of five years or till he attains the age of sixty-two years, whichever is earlier, and shall not be entitled for reappointment. Provided that a serving Vice-Chairman or a Member shall be eligible for appointment as Chairman or Vice-Chairman in the Commission, subject to the condition that his total service in the Commission shall not exceed five years or his age shall not exceed sixty-two years, whichever is earlier : Provided further that the Chairman, Vice-Chairman or Members of the Commission shall serve the Commission at least for two years before they are appointed to any new assignment, if any. 1 [ Provided also that any person appointed as Chairman, Vice-Chairman or Member holding office as such immediately before the date* to be notified by the Central Government in this behalf, shall on and from such date, cease to hold such office, and they shall be entitled to claim compensation not exceeding three months pay and allowances for the premature termination of term of their office ] Note : The Chairman, Vice-Chairmen or Members of the Commission may apply for any other post but they cannot accept any new assignment before the completion of two years of service in the Commission. ***************** NOTES:- 1.
