The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has been established under the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 as statutory body for laying down science based standard for articles of food and to regulate manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import of goods so as to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, the Food Authority has a mandate of ensuring safety of food items imported into the country. 2. In terms of provisions contained in Section 25 read with Section 47(5) of FSSAI Act, 2006 and in pursuance with the Order dated 13.08.2015 issued by the Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, New Delhi vide F.No. 1-1415/FSSAI/Imports/2015, S/ Shri Lakha Ram and Man Singh Meena, both Superintendent of Customs, Kandla Commissionerate, are hereby notified as Authorised Officer for clearance of food items imported under the jurisdiction of Kandla Port and Adani Bulk Terminal, Tuna.
