The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 12.97 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 26/03/2011 (over 27/03/2010) as compared to 12.98 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 19/03/2011). The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:- The index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 0.4 percent to 179.5 (Provisional) from 178.7 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of coffee (14%), fish-marine (4%), poultry chicken (3%) and fruits & vegetables, mutton, bajra and fish-inland (1% each). However, the prices of barley and gram (2% each) and condiments & spices, arhar, egg, ragi, rice, masur, wheat, beef & buffalo meat, jowar and maize ( ..... The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group rose by 1.2 percent to 192.1 (Provisional) from 189.9 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of raw rubber (11%), sugarcane (7%), cotton seed (4%), castor seed, niger seed and sunflower (2% each) and gaur seed and gingelly seed (1% each). However, the prices of flowers (6%), soyabean (4%), mesta (3%), raw silk and raw jute (2% each) and copra, coir fibre, fodder, rape & mustard seed and groundnut seed (1% each) declined. The index for 'Minerals' group declined by 0.4 percent to 259.2 (Provisional) from 260.2 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of barytes (7%), copper ore (5%) and chromite (3%).
