The High Court of Kerala ruled that interest on a borrowal made against a fixed deposit is not an allowable deduction under section 57(iii) of the Income-tax Act. The decision was based on previous court rulings and the Supreme Court's interpretation that interest paid on borrowals cannot be deducted from income earned on fixed deposits.
