The High Court of Madras held that the petitioner was entitled to a lien under Section 221 of the Indian Contract Act for expenditures made before the winding-up order. The District Judge was wrong in refusing to recognize this lien. The Court set aside the District Judge's order and remanded the case for determining the sum allowed for post-winding-up disbursements and the extent of the petitioner's lien on the property. Fresh evidence may be presented, and costs will be paid from the estate.
