The High Court of Madras held that an acknowledgment under Section 19 of the Limitation Act does not require a promise to pay. An acknowledgment of the correctness of an account does not need a stamp unless required by the Stamp Act. The court dismissed the civil revision petition as there was no evidence to show that defendant 2 was authorized to acknowledge defendant 1's liability.
