Article 36 - Amendment of Article 217 - Constitution (42nd Amendment) Act, 1976Extract Amendment of Article 217 . 36. In Article 217 of the Constitution, in clause (2), ( a ) in sub-clause ( b ), the word or shall be inserted at the end; ( b ) after sub-clause ( b ), the following sub-clause shall be inserted , namely: ( c ) is, in the opinion of the President, a distinguished jurist. ; ( c ) in the Explanation, in clause ( a ), for the words has held judicial office , the words has held judicial office or the office of a member of a tribunal or any post, under the Union or a State, requiring special knowledge of law shall be substituted . ************** NOTES:- 1. Shall come into force, w.e.f. 3rd day of January 1977 vide G.S.R. 2(E), dated 3-1-1977.
