No. 605/14/95-DBK] Government of India Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) New Delhi I am directed to say that the question of importability of maintenance free batteries was considered by the Specified Licensing Committee (SLC) at its meeting held on 30-5-1995. The Committee had decided that maintenance free batteries being consumer goods are covered under the Negative List of Imports and therefore, cannot be allowed to be imported without a licence. Instructions may please be issued to all concerned under your jurisdiction to ensure that maintenance free rechargeable storage batteries may not be allowed to be imported without a licence.
