Central Excise (Eighth Amendment) Rules, 1996 Notification No. 33/96-C.E. (N.T.) Dated 28-9-1996 In exercise of the powers conferred by section 37 of the Central Excise Act, 1944 (1 of 1944), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Central Excise Rules, 1944 (hereinafter referred to as the said rules), namely :- 1. (i) These rules may be called the Central Excise (Eighth Amendment) Rules, 1996 . (ii) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the said rules, in rule 173Q, in sub-rule (1), for the words, brackets, figures and letters "Subject to the provisions contained in sub-rule (4) of rule 57-I and sub-rule (5) of rule 57U", the words, figures, letters and brackets, "Subject to the provisions contained in section 11AC of the Act and sub-rule (4) of rule 57-I and sub-rule (5) of rule 57U" shall be substituted.
