Central Excise Rules - 4th Amendment of 1996 Notification No. 18/96-C.E. (N.T.) Dated 31-7-1996 In exercise of the powers conferred by section 37 of the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944 (1 of 1944), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Central Excise Rules, 1944, (hereinafter referred to as the said rules), namely :- 1. (i) These rules may be called the Central Excise (Fourth Amendment) Rules, 1966 . (ii) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In sub-rule (1) of rule 57H of the said rules, in clause (ii), - (i) for the figures, letters and words "1st day of August, 1996" wherever they occur, the figures, letters and words "1st day of September, 1996" shall be substituted; (ii) for the figures, letters and words "1st August, 1996", the figures, letters and words "30th day of September, 1966" shall be substituted. 3. In sub-rule (5) of rule 57-I of the said rules, for the words, brackets and figures "sub-rule (2)", the words, brackets and figures "clause (ii) of sub-rule (1)" shall be substituted.
