Iron or non-alloys steel - 89/86 - Customs -TariffExtract Iron or non-alloys steel Notification No. 89/86-Cus. Dated 17-2-1986 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts iron and non-alloy steel products containing less than 0.6% of carbon in the forms described in column (2) of the Table below and falling within Chapter 72 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975), when imported into India, from so much of that portion of the duty of customs leviable thereon which is specified in the said First Schedule as is in excess of the amount calculated at the rate specified in the corresponding entry in column (3) of the said Table. Sheets and plates, other than the following, namely : 60% ad valorem (a) sheets and plates of thickness not exceeding 5 millimetre; (b) tin-free coated steel sheets; and (c) galvanized sheets in coils or otherwise. 2. Sheets and plates of thickness not exceeding 5 milimetres, other than the following, namely : 80% ad valorem (a) tin-free coated sheets; and (b) galvanised sheets in coils or otherwise. 3. Tinned sheets or plates other than tin-plate waste. 55% ad valorem Explanation : For the purpose of this notification, the expression "sheets and plates" shall have the meaning hereby assigned to the same : Sheets and plates . — Rolled products (other than coils for re-rolling of any thickness and if in rectangles of a width exceeding 500 mm. 2. This notification shall come into force on the 28th day of February, 1986.
