Rescinds the sector specific Special Economic Zone for Biotechnology at Electronic City, Phase III, Bangalore in the State of Karnataka - S.O. 300(E) - Special Economic Zone

MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (Department of Commerce) NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 30th January, 2013 S.O. 300(E).-Whereas, M/s. Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services (KBITS) had proposed under Section 3 of the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005 (28 of 2005) (hereinafter referred to as the said Act) to set up a sector specific Special Economic Zone for Biotechnology at Electronic City, Phase III, Bangalore in the State of Karnataka; And, Whereas, the Central Government in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 4 of the said Act read with rule 8 of the Special Economic Zone Rules, 2006 , had notified an area of 37.49 hectares at above location as Special Economic Zone vide Ministry of Commerce and Industry Notification Number S.O. 1010(E), dated 22nd June, 2007 ; And, Whereas, M/s. Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services (KBITS) has proposed to de-notify the entire area of 37.49 hectares of the above Special Economic Zone and the Central Government has granted letter of approval for de-notification of above area on 8th August, 2011; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by first proviso to rule 8 of the Special Economic Zones Rules, 2006 , the Central Government hereby rescinds the above notification except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such rescission.
