Index Numbers of Wholesale Prices in India (Base: 2004-05=100) Review for the month of September, 2011 . - News and Press Release Dated:- 14-10-2011 - News - Press Information Bureau Government of India Ministry of Commerce Industry 14-October-2011 11:51 IST Index Numbers of Wholesale Prices in India (Base: 2004-05=100) Review for the month of September, 2011 The official Wholesale Price Index for All Commodities (Base: 2004-05 = 100) for the month September, 2011 rose by 0.6 percent to 155.8 (Provisional) from 154.9 (Provisional) for the previous month. INFLATION The annual rate of inflation, based on monthly WPI, stood at 9.72% (Provisional) for the month of September, 2011 (over September, 2010) as compared to 9.78% (Provisional) for the previous month and 8.98% during the corresponding month of the previous year. Build up inflation in the financial year so far was 4.21% compared to a build up of 4.18% in the corresponding period of the previous year. Inflation for important commodities / commodity groups is indicated in Annex-1 and Annex-II. The movement of the index for the various commodity groups is summarized below:- PRIMARY ARTICLES .....

..... (Weight 20.12%) The index for this major group rose by 1.3 percent to 202.2 (Provisional) from 199.6 (Provisional) for the previous month. The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the month are as follows:- The index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 1.4 percent to 196.5 (Provisional) from 193.7 (Provisional) for the previous month due to higher prices of poultry chicken (10%), gram (8%), fish-inland (4%), arhar, masur, fruits vegetables and egg (3% each) and condiments spices (2%) and milk and urad (1% each). However, the prices of tea and maize (4% each), jowar and coffee (2% each) and barley, wheat, ragi, fish-marine and pork (1% each) declined. The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group rose by 1.8 percent to 184.4 (Provisional) from 181.1 (Provisional) for the previous month due to higher prices of logs timber (32%), raw cotton (6%), raw rubber (5%), raw silk (3%), linseed and rape mustard seed (2% each) and raw jute, groundnut seed, sunflower, niger seed and coir fibre (1% each). However, the prices of zinc concentrate (14%), limestone and steatite (8% each), copper ore (6%), dolomite (5%) and iron ore (1%) moved up. FUEL POWER (Weight 14.91%) The index for this major group rose by 0.8 percent to 168.4 (Provisional) from 167.0 (Provisional) for the previous month due to higher prices of lubricants (5%), electricity (agricultural) and bitumen (4% each), electricity (domestic), electricity (industry), electricity (commercial) and petrol (3% each), electricity (railway traction) (2%) and furnace oil (1%). However, the prices of aviation turbine fuel (1%) declined. MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS (Weight 64.97%) The index for this major group rose by 0.2 percent to 138.6 (Provisional) from 138.3 (Provisional) for the previous month. The index for 'Beverages, Tobacco Tobacco Products' group rose by 0.3 percent to 163.8 (Provisional) from 163.3 (Provisional) for the previous month due to higher prices of rectified spirit (4%) and cigarette and soft drinks carbonated water (1% each). However, the prices of zarda (3%) and dried tobacco (1%) declined. The index for 'Textiles' group declined by 1.5 percent to 126.4 (Provisional) from 128.3 (Provisional) for the previous month due to lower prices of gunny hessian cloth and jute yarn (11% each), cotton yarn (4%), jute sacking bag (3%), woollen textiles (2%) and jute sacking cloth, cotton fabric and man made fibre (1% each). The index for 'Basic Metals, Alloys Metal Products' group rose by 0.5 percent to 154.1 (Provisional) from 153.4 (Provisional) for the previous month due to higher prices of nuts/bolts/screw/ washers (12%), silver (6%), utensils (other than aluminium) (3%), iron castings, pig iron and chromium / chrome (2% each) and gold gold ornaments, rounds, angles and sponge iron (1% each).
