Article 51 - Amendment of Article 357 - Constitution (42nd Amendment) Act, 1976Extract Amendment of Article 357 . 51. (1) In Article 357 of the Constitution, for clause (2), the following clause shall be substituted , namely: (2) Any law made in exercise of the power of the Legislature of the State by Parliament or the President or other authority referred to in sub-clause ( a ) of clause (1) which Parliament or the President or such other authority would not, but for the issue of a Proclamation under Article 356, have been competent to make shall, after the Proclamation has ceased to operate, continue in force until altered or repealed or amended by a competent Legislature or other authority. . (2) The amendment made by sub-section (1) shall apply also to any law referred to in clause (2) of Article 357 of the Constitution which is in force immediately before the coming into force of this section. ******************* NOTES:- 1. Shall come into force, w.e.f. 3rd day of January 1977 vide G.S.R. 2(E), dated 3-1-1977.
