EXPORT OF OIL MEAL AND OIL MEAL PRODUCTS

The export of oilmeal declined from 4493293 Tons in the year 2018-19 to 2655789 Tons in the year 2019-20 due to better price realization for the product in domestic market. Subsequently, exports had a steep boost in the year 2020-21 with the total export of 4366554 Tons (91.45% growth). Furthermore, upto September, 2021, there is 1.69% growth in exports of oilmeal over the same period in the year 2020-21.

Ministry of Food Processing industries (MoFPI) is implementing various schemes like Pradhan MantriKisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme (outlay of ₹ 10,000 crore) and Product Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme (outlay of ₹ 10,900 crore) for supporting creation of modern infrastructure, setting/upgrading the food manufacturing units, value chain development in perishables, backward and forward linkages, financial, technical and business support for upgradation/setting up of micro food processing units etc. The schemes are available for oilmeal industry also.

To promote agricultural exports including oilmeals, the Government has introduced a comprehensive Agriculture Export Policy (AEP) to harness export potential of Indian agriculture and raise farmers’ income. The Department of Commerce provides assistance through several other schemes, to promote exports, including agriculture export viz. Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES), Market Access Initiatives (MAI) Scheme, etc. In addition, assistance to the exporters of agriculture products is also available under the export promotion schemes of Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Tea Board, Coffee Board and Spices Board. The Government has also introduced a Central Sector Scheme – ‘Transport and Marketing Assistance for Specified Agriculture Products’ – for providing assistance for the international component of freight, to mitigate the freight disadvantage for the export of agriculture products.

This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Smt. Anupriya Patel, in a written reply in the LokSabha today.
