Anand Sharma to Discuss Measures to Reboot Manufacturing Sector With States, Industry Tomorrow

A meeting of State Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries (Industry) is being organized on 13th September, 2012 at Parliament House Annexe. The meeting will be inaugurated by Shri Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles. It would be chaired by Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, Chairman, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council.

In the meeting the following issues are proposed to be discussed:

·        Measures for regaining growth momentum in Manufacturing.

·        Strategies and Processes for getting 12-14% growth rates in Manufacturing as envisaged in the National Manufacturing Policy. Business Regulatory Environment.

·        Challenges relating to MSMEs and employment intensive sectors like Textiles.

·        Skill Development.

·        Land and workspaces with adequate infrastructure at affordable rates along with workers housing - Clustering.

Ministries and Departments of the Central Government dealing with the above issues as well as the Industrial Chambers would be interacting with the representatives of the States.

Cabinet Secretary, Shri Ajit Seth; President, CII, Shri Adi Godrej; President, ASSOCHAM, Shri Raj Kumar Dhoot;  Vice President, FICCI, Shri Sidharth Birla; Adviser to Prime Minister, Dr. Sam Pitroda would be sharing their perspectives.  Member, Planning Commission, Shri Arun Maira would be holding a session on recent international experience of effective industrial policy implementation.

An effective partnership between the Central Government, State Governments and Industry is the key to the attainment of the National Manufacturing Policy objective of 12-14% growth rates sustained over a decade. The meeting aims to facilitate this.
