Data Base of Credit Card Holders. - Income Tax - 1961/1999

INSTRUCTION NO . 1961/1999 Dated: February 10, 1999 Subject: Data Base of Credit Card Holders A number of representation have been received from various banks pointingout difficulties in supplying information on credit card holders-which is being sought by various wings of the Income tax Department. The main request relates to the necessity of consistency in the data formats, mode of submission and the frequency of submission of the data. 2. After details discussion with the Indian Bank's Association, the following procedure has been agreed to:-- (i) The information being sought on the credit holders will be in respect of names, addresses and PAN/GIR No., if available. (ii) The credit card issuing companies will supply the information-centrally to the Directors General of Investigation in the Income Tax Department specified in the enclosure to this letter. However, the particulars by the credit card holding companies shall be furnished city-wise. (iii) The information shall be furnished once every four months. (iv) The D.G. concerned will be disseminate the city-wise information received from the designated credit card companies to the concerned DIT (Investigation) under intimation to the concerned DG. (v) Essentially the exercise of gathering information regarding credit card holders is for implementation the one-by-six scheme. Once the information regarding credit card holders is available the communication from the department to the card holders will specifically refer to he or she being covered by the one-by-six scheme. The communication will not divulge that he or she comes under the scheme as a credit card holder. (vi) Details of any individual account particular may be requested for by any of the concerned I.T. authorities separately and such details should be made available. 3.
