New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the tenth NITI Aayog's Governing Council meeting on Saturday, which is expected to deliberate on the roadmap for making India a developed nation by 2047, a senior government official said on Friday. It will be the first major meeting of the prime minister with chief ministers of all states and Union Territories after Operation Sindoor. According to the official, the meeting is also expected to deliberate on the initiatives taken in the Budget 2025-26 and the challenges being faced by the Indian economy. The Indian economy is facing headwinds following imposition of reciprocal tariffs by the US administration under President Donald Trump. India is expected to grow in the range of 6.2-6.7 per cent in the current fiscal, despite the possibility of the US economy slipping into recession, China's growth taking a heavy beating and globally, countries seeing slowing economic activity. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank have slashed India's growth projections for 2025-26 to 6.2 per cent and 6.3 per cent, respectively, citing uncertain global environment and high trade tensions. In January, the IMF and the World Bank had projected India to grow at 6.5 per cent and 6.7, respectively, in the current fiscal. The governing council -- the apex body of NITI Aayog -- includes all chief ministers, lieutenant governors of Union Territories, and several Union ministers. Modi is the Chairman of NITI Aayog. As many as 10 states and UTs did not participate in the last year's Governing Council meeting of the NITI Aayog. Generally, the full council meeting happens every year and last year it was held under the chairmanship of Modi on July 27. The first meeting of the council took place on February 8, 2015. A vision document is being prepared by NITI Aayog to help India become a developed economy of USD 30 trillion by 2047, the 100th year of its independence. In 2023, NITI Aayog was entrusted with the task of consolidating the 10 sectoral thematic visions into a combined vision for Viksit Bharat @2047. The vision encompasses various aspects of development, including economic growth, social progress, environmental sustainability, and good governance, among other. PTI BKS HVA Source: PTI |
