Centralized Processing Center (CPC), Bengaluru, the flagship project of Income Tax Department with M/s.Infosys Limited as the Managed Service Provider, was awarded “ISO 15489-1: 2001” certificate by British Standards Institution (BSI). With this, CPC became the first organization in India and the world to receive the certification. The ISO 15489:2001 is a “Record Management Standard” governing the practice of maintaining records of an organization from the time they are created up to their eventual disposal. This includes registering, classifying, storing, securing, retrieval and disposition of records.

CPC was set-up in 2009 by the Income Tax Department to process electronic returns in a centralized facility. Till July 2013, CPC has processed over 4.4 crore IT returns and stored and archived over 4.7 crore physical documents in a modern record management facility. The large volumes of paper records handled by the CPC, in the form of ITR V necessitated a scientific record management system compliant with international best practices.

The certificate was handed over by Mr. Howard Kerr, Chief Executive, BSI to Mr. Dileep Shivpuri, DGIT (Systems) from the Income Tax Department at a function organized at CPC in Bengaluru on 5th September 2013 in the presence of Dr. K Satyanarayana and Mr. S K Sahai, Chief Commissioners of Income Tax, and Mr. S. Ravi, Director General Of Income Tax (Investigation), Bangalore.
