Attention is invited to Board's earlier instructions dated 12-3-1992 on the above subject, issued from F. No. 497/2/92-Cus.VI, and to say that in terms of these instructions, it has been prescribed that there is no need to insist on any undertaking or surety or bank guarantee from passengers going abroad on short visits during the period of one year stay in India after availing transfer of residence facility. In practice, a simple letter is being taken from such passengers stating the purpose and likely duration of their stay on such short visits. It has since been decided that in future such passengers should not be asked to give these letters and they should be allowed to leave without being asked to furnish any documents if the proper officer is satisfied that the passenger is leaving for a short visit abroad.
